Insight is any way of looking that releases craving.
― Rob Burbea, Seeing That Frees
This week we’re diving into the relationship between grasping, letting go and acceptance. This will allow us to tie together all those other meditation terms that pop up everywhere like clinging, dropping the ball, contraction, letting be, craving, aversion, etc. What we attempt to do with the mind is simple as a concept, and as a skill once we learn how, but often hard to learn as a practice. This has resulted in such a plethora of ways of talking about it.
Roger spoke last week about sending metta to sensations we don’t find pleasant and how that can help reduce suffering. You might logically think (or have thought) that such an idea sounds ridiculous, what are we doing by wishing sensations well or attempting to befriend them? We’ll go more deeply into why such things actually work despite the initial wtf reaction.
We’ll then practice several Rob Burbea inspired ways of reducing grasping.
