Overview of Meditation Techniques
There are a number of different techniques, we’ll mainly be using the first two types, concentrative and deconstructive practices.
Concentrative:
Known as samatha in Buddhist meditation.
Some examples:
- Following the breath
- Simple anapana (guided meditation)
- Repeating a mantra
- Kasina practice
- Fire kasina (guided meditation)
- Earth kasina (guided meditation)
- Loving kindness (metta)
With a number of such practices you can also practice different breadths such as a narrow or more inclusive focus.
Deconstructive:
Known as vipassana in Buddhist meditation
Some examples:
- Noting
- Body scanning
Constructive:
- Metta meditation
- Jhana practices
Non-dual:
