We’ve done a lot of work here at Meditative.dev on noting experience. We’ve done this with simple labels (See, Hear, Feel) and more specific ones (Mahasi Sayadaw style (tingling, contentment, coolness, etc.) We’ve also done the latter socially, sharing our experience in realtime with others. Today we’re going to employ language, as we do with noting, but to emphasize aspects of experience that often get left out when noting, particularly when noting fast.
As we’ve emphasized before, language isn’t the enemy of the meditator and today we’ll explore one of its skillful uses, both in the ‘mind’s ear’ and socially.
We’ll focus on describing our present experience and how it evolves, but doing so relationally rather than in the chopped up way that noting tends to emphasize. This practice can both help us bring increased clarity to our phenomenal experience and let others in to what it’s like to be us.
