This is primarily for the reason that, in my opinion, and based on available evidence, it is the most effective insight (deconstruction) technique there is. However, this is only true on two main conditions. The first is that we have enough meta-awareness (mindfulness) and non-reactivity (equanimity) that when distractions arise we can get back to the task at hand relatively quickly. If we can’t, then we might want to do a concentration practice first, such as following the breath. The second condition is that we’re not at a point in our practice where a more non-dual approach works better, namely at the stage along the meditation path called Equanimity. At this point a more holistic approach is more helpful since noting involves a subject (doing the noting) and an object (being noted) which eventually have to be given up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today we’re going to do both slower and faster open noting. I say ‘open’ because we won’t be using a restricted set of pre-established categories (such as see, hear, feel). This practice will be helpful to appreciate the different benefits each style has in coming to understand the nature of the mind and its contents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Hey everybody, First a brief note on why we do the technique called noting at Meditative.dev.
